At Little Learners nursery our babies are in a separate area in a large room that is a stimulating and safe environment. This room is shared with the toddler children but the babies are in a segregated area that is separated by a small fence until they are ready to progress to the toddler area. This allow the babies to become familiar with the older children and helps them with their transition to a different area.
Our babies are well cared for by a fully trained practitioner (level 3) who has attended a relevant Early Years baby practitioner course. Each baby has their own take home diary which the practitioner writes in daily to inform the parent/carer about what their child has been doing through-out the day. They also have a Learning Journey file which contains information about where the child’s age and stage of development is and how their learning is progressing. This learning journey then follows them through each area of the nursery and is available at all times for the parent/carer to view.
Our toddler room is a warm and inviting area and enables the children to prepare for their transition to the pre-school room. We have a small home corner where the children enjoy pretending to make their own meals to develop their personal, social and emotional skills, this area is often turned in to a themed area such as a café or a hairdressers depending on what the children would like it to be. The staff offer support and act as role models to allow the children to explore and show their own interests in discovering new things.
We have lots of fun, structured activities through- out the day which the children enjoy accessing and taking part in. The toddlers have easy access to these activities and often help the staff to get the activity ready as this allows the children free choice to develop their creative skills.
There is a quiet area provided where the children can sit and enjoy listening to stories or sing songs and nursery rhymes or to look at books. This is a perfect area for the staff to extend the children’s communication and language skills through stories and songs.
The children in our toddler area are learning to develop all of their skills to help them to build positive relationships, self- confidence and self- awareness and a healthy well being.
Our pre-school room offers a variety of activities, learning and development and independent skills as well as a warm and welcoming environment. The children’s learning starts on their arrival as the staff sit with the children and engage with the letter sounds and phonics to develop communication and language skills. A wide range of challenging activities are provided, these ensure that each child seeks a challenge and show a ‘can do’ attitude. All children are encouraged to be independent. They children are supported to wash/dry their hands through staff role modelling at low level sinks and as also low level toilets. Children are encouraged to self- serve their own lunches and take their plates and cutlery back to the lunch trolley. During the mornings we have a one to one literacy and maths sessions with a member of staff. This is to get the children to be a part of our school readiness process that is encouraged by Early Years and our local schools.
Since joining St. Albans Little Learners nursery back in May of last year, my son has developed in so many ways with his speech, he is now able to recognise animals, colours and numbers and has grown in confidence. The staff are very supportive and approachable and are very good with communication i.e. emails, letters and notices. My son seems very happy and settled here and I would highly recommend to others.on Friday 20th January 2017
My daughter attends Little Learners Nursery and has done from 6 months old, she is now 3. My son attended before her. Both children love going, they enjoy a variety of activities, indoor and outdoor. Staff are very pleasant and always happy to help with any questions I have or situations. They are very accomodating with nursery time changes for my daughter as she attends lots of appointments, so they are happy to work around them. We love this nursery.Natasha B on Monday 16th January 2017
My daughter started little learners in June, and the only reason why she is leaving is because we have moved out of area. My daughter has absolutely loved going, she has loved this nursery and has never cried once and has always wanted to attend. The staff are brilliant with the children, my daughter bonded with every member of staff. Thanks for everythingJoanne F on Thursday 2nd February 2017
I have sent all four of my children to St. Albans Little Learners and cannot praise them enough. The staff are fantastic and friendly and there is a lovely atmosphere for the children. All four of my children developed in so many ways while they were at Little learners and still talk about it to this day.Mandy H on Friday 3rd February 2017
