St Albans Little Learners Nursery CIC is based in St. Alban's Community Centre in Blurton, Stoke on Trent. Central to the aim of the nursery is the ability to help and support parents within the local area by providing low cost, high quality childcare. The nursery has links with the local authority; registered with Early Years and has strong links with local health care professionals such as Health Visitors and Speech and Language Therapists. Other professional agencies such as Fizzy Tots work in partnership with the nursery on a regular basis. The local Primary Schools liaise with the nursery to accommodate the transitional stage of children from one setting to another. This takes the form of visits by teachers, and has also resulted in group visits to the local schools.
The nursery operates in St Albans Community Centre located within a residential area. The setting is close to local amenities, on a central bus route and has its own car park facility. The nursery regularly makes use of a nearby play area and mill pond. It serves the immediate community but also the surrounding areas through its childcare provision. The nursery has the capacity to be open five days a week from 8am until 6pm for 49 weeks of the year with a maximum of 40 spaces available per day. The setting comprises of two main rooms, with separate children's toilets and baby changing room. Children have access to an enclosed outdoor play area. The halls occupied by the nursery are also used by other community groups at weekends and, on occasion by prior agreement, on an evening. The spaces and rooms occupied by the nursery are fully accessible for those who require wheelchair or pushchair access; all areas are on one level. Currently the larger of the 2 halls is divided into 2 areas; a Baby Area and Toddler Area and the smaller hall is where the Pre-School children are based. This is subject to change dependent on space ratio. This affords the nursery flexibility as a setting meaning the spaces can be swapped and altered as per the requirement of the children and the activities being undertaken. We are working in partnership with the Community Centre to further develop and improve the outdoor space. Currently there is a garden area, where children are able to dig and plant and a flat play area for use with bikes, cars and scooters. The nursery makes use of the Community Centre’s Cafe facility for children requiring hot meals and to make fresh food readily available to children throughout the day.
The nursery is currently undergoing a period of growth and now has nine fully qualified staff and two students from a local college working with the children. All of those in direct contact with children have been checked to ensure they are suitable to work with children. They all hold a current Disclosure and Barring Service Check and regularly sign to say that there has been no changes to their circumstances which affect their ability to work within the childcare sector. Staff attend regular training and are all required to complete relevant courses such as First Aid and Safeguarding. One staff member holds a Foundation Degree in Early Years (BA Hons), seven staff members have a Level 3 NVQ in Childcare and one staff member has a Level 2 NVQ in Childcare and is working towards attaining a Level 3 qualification. The students on placement at Little Learners are studying their Level two and Level three NVQs respectively. Two Childcare Practitioners are based within the Pre-School room (children aged three and above). Two staff work within the Toddler Area (children aged 18 months and up to two and a half years). One Childcare Practitioner is based within the Baby Area (children aged from 6 weeks and up to 18 months) and also works with toddlers as and when required. One Childcare Practitioner works across both the Toddler and Pre-School area. Three further staff members comprise the management team, being supernumerary they can work across all areas and do so as and when required. Their primary duties focus on the day to day running of the nursery including general administration, monitoring and directing staff and tracking the children’s ongoing development. The Management team strive to ensure all children have the best possible experience whilst attending Little Learners.
Since joining St. Albans Little Learners nursery back in May of last year, my son has developed in so many ways with his speech, he is now able to recognise animals, colours and numbers and has grown in confidence. The staff are very supportive and approachable and are very good with communication i.e. emails, letters and notices. My son seems very happy and settled here and I would highly recommend to others.on Friday 20th January 2017
My daughter attends Little Learners Nursery and has done from 6 months old, she is now 3. My son attended before her. Both children love going, they enjoy a variety of activities, indoor and outdoor. Staff are very pleasant and always happy to help with any questions I have or situations. They are very accomodating with nursery time changes for my daughter as she attends lots of appointments, so they are happy to work around them. We love this nursery.Natasha B on Monday 16th January 2017
My daughter started little learners in June, and the only reason why she is leaving is because we have moved out of area. My daughter has absolutely loved going, she has loved this nursery and has never cried once and has always wanted to attend. The staff are brilliant with the children, my daughter bonded with every member of staff. Thanks for everythingJoanne F on Thursday 2nd February 2017
I have sent all four of my children to St. Albans Little Learners and cannot praise them enough. The staff are fantastic and friendly and there is a lovely atmosphere for the children. All four of my children developed in so many ways while they were at Little learners and still talk about it to this day.Mandy H on Friday 3rd February 2017
